Betty Nelson Fundraiser 2022

Welcome to the Volusia county Sister Cities Association Betty Nelson Scholarship Fundraiser page.

Betty Nelson 2021 & 2022 Scholarship Awards

Our annual fundraiser event for the Betty Nelson Scholarship Fund has been online the past two years to continue this event without meeting in person.  We appreciate the community support for this annual event and look forward to scheduling the event live in the near future!

We sponsor local art/culture focused groups including the Daytona Writer’s Guild, the Daytona Symphony Guild, the Volusia County World Language Festival and AACS.  It is a pleasure to have an opportunity to support other groups in our community who share our mission and collaborate when possible.

Congratulations to the 2021 and 2022 graduating seniors at Taylor Middle High School who received the Betty Nelson Scholarship Award of $1000.00.  Our Association selects two graduating seniors each year from Taylor Middle High School in Pierson to receive this Scholarship.  Each    student is selected based on their academic standing, community involvement, personal commitment and values.

On May 26, 2021, the Betty Nelson Scholarship was awarded to Laisha Arreola and Jose Torres.

On May 19, 2022, the Scholarship was awarded to Jose Sanchez and Genaro Galarzo.  The  recipients are attending local Colleges/Universities.

Our sincere appreciation to members and friends who continue to support the Scholarship awards to deserving Volusia County students.

In November 2022, after a two year break, we did have a fundraiser event in person at the Palmetto Club in Daytona Beach. We had items for a silent auction with photographs and gift baskets. Chris Gellermann showed a presentation of the summer trip to Campeche:

"From Campeche to Gainesville: Fostering teacher relationships between Florida and Mexico - The Center for Latin American Studies has a history of offering summer professional development opportunities as part of its outreach program, with the goal of fostering educator collaborations with teachers throughout Latin America."

We thank everybody who were able to join us for their continued support through purchase/donation at the event.

If we're planning to have a fundraiser event in 2023, we will let you know in advance.
